Tryptase is an enzyme released primarily by mast cells. Baseline tryptase levels are used to screen for mastocytosis (an abnormal accumulation of mast cells) and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) — conditions that cause flushing, hives, gastrointestinal symptoms, and potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis. A baseline tryptase above 20 ng/mL is highly suggestive of systemic mastocytosis. Elevated levels can also be seen after anaphylactic reactions, severe allergic episodes, and certain blood cancers. This test is valuable for patients with unexplained allergic-type symptoms, recurrent anaphylaxis, or suspected mast cell disorders.

1 biomarker tested
Your Tryptase results will include values for each of the 1 biomarker tested, along with reference ranges. Results are reviewed by a licensed physician before being released to your secure portal.
If any values fall outside the normal range, your report will include guidance on what that may mean and recommended next steps. You'll receive an email notification when your results are ready, typically within 3–5 business days.
Typical reference range layout
Lab reports show where your value sits relative to established reference intervals—your physician interprets this in context for you.
No fasting required. For baseline testing, blood should not be drawn within 24 hours of an allergic reaction.
