Fasting glucose measures the amount of sugar in your blood after an overnight fast. It's one of the simplest tests for screening diabetes and prediabetes. A fasting glucose below 100 mg/dL is normal, 100–125 mg/dL indicates prediabetes, and 126 mg/dL or above suggests diabetes. While simpler than A1c, it reflects only a single point in time.
